DEPARTMENT
OF
CHEMICAL  ENGINEERING

Pondicherry Engineering College, Pondicherry

Facility Faculty Courses offered Guests and Invited Lectures Industry Orientation HOME

The Chemical Engineering Department was established in the year 1998 with the admission of the first batch of 30 students into the B.Tech., course in Chemical Engineering. In this region of Tamilnadu and Pondicherry, this is only the fifth chemical engineering department to be established in the government or government aided sector. The building of the chemical engineering department, built on a plinth area of 27,000 sq.ft., was opened on 15th September 2000 by Her Excellency Mrs.(Dr.) Rajani Rai, the Lieutenant   Governor of the Union Territory of Pondicherry. Apart from the office, faculty rooms and three class rooms, the building houses eight laboratories in the core and the specialized areas of chemical engineering. The chemical engineering curriculum here has been designed to cater to the changing trends in the chemical industry, by putting a lot of emphasis on the laboratory courses.  Some of the specialties of the curriculum include a laboratory course on computer aided design and simulation, a compulsory in plant training of 4 weeks duration, one seminar course and a Design Thesis.
